For over a thousand years the Kingdom of Kush ruled the Nile. Its kings — the Black Pharaohs — even conquered Egypt and reigned as its 25th Dynasty. At Meroë, more than 200 steep pyramids still rise from the golden sand: more than all of Egypt combined. حكمت مملكة كوش وادي النيل أكثر من ألف عام، حتى إن ملوكها «الفراعنة السود» فتحوا مصر وحكموها بالأسرة الخامسة والعشرين. وفي مروي ما زال أكثر من ٢٠٠ هرم شامخ يرتفع من الرمال الذهبية — أكثر من أهرامات مصر مجتمعة.

At Khartoum, the Blue Nile — rushing down from the Ethiopian highlands — embraces the calm White Nile from the heart of Africa. Sudanese call this meeting al-Mogran.
