The Kandakes — queen mothers of Kush — led armies and raised great cities and monuments. One of them, Amanirenas, fought Rome to a standstill and won terms even an emperor had to honour. Their legacy remains a symbol of dignity and strength across Sudan today.الكنداكات — ملكات كوش — قُدنَ الجيوش وشيّدنَ المدن والصروح العظيمة. واحدةٌ منهنّ، أماني ريناس، صمدت في وجه روما وانتزعت شروطًا اضطُرّ إمبراطورٌ لاحترامها. إرثهنّ رمزٌ للكرامة والقوة في السودان إلى اليوم.

حضارة مروي

Kush was one of the ancient world's great ironworking powers — so many furnaces ringed Meroë that scholars nicknamed it the "Birmingham of Africa," and its mounds of iron slag still rise beside the ruins. The Kushites also created their own alphabet — the Meroitic script, among the earliest writing systems on the continent — and grew wealthy trading gold, iron and ivory from the heart of Africa to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.كانت كوش من أعظم قوى صناعة الحديد في العالم القديم — حتى أحاطت بمروي أفرانٌ كثيرة حتى لقّبها العلماء بـ«برمنغهام إفريقيا»، ولا تزال تلال خَبَث الحديد تنهض بجوار الأطلال. وابتكر الكوشيون أبجديتهم الخاصّة — الكتابة المروية، من أقدم نظم الكتابة في القارّة — وأثروا بتجارة الذهب والحديد والعاج من قلب إفريقيا إلى المتوسط والبحر الأحمر.
