A Land of Plenty
Gold and grain, rivers and herds — Sudan is one of the richest lands in Africa. This is the bounty its soil has always offered.
Blessed Earth
Sudan was born wealthy. Between two rivers and beneath a generous sun it holds gold, fertile plains, vast herds and a treasure the whole world uses without knowing its name. Here is the bounty of a land that could feed and enrich far beyond its own borders.
Gold of the Pharaohs
Three thousand years ago, the gold of Nubia adorned the pharaohs and flowed through the ancient world. That same earth still glitters today: Sudan is now the third-largest gold producer in all of Africa, much of it drawn from the sand by hand by villagers across the north and east. The land of gold has never stopped giving.

Treasures of the Land
Gold
Since the days of the pharaohs, Nubian gold has dazzled the world — and it still does. Today Sudan is the third-largest gold producer in all of Africa, its veins of ore running from the Nubian desert to the hills of the Red Sea. This is, quite literally, the original land of gold.
Gum Arabic
From the humble hashab acacia comes a treasure the whole world depends on: gum arabic. Sudan produces the great majority of the planet's supply — the natural binder hidden in soft drinks, sweets and medicine. You have almost certainly tasted Sudan without ever knowing its name.
Livestock
Across Sudan's endless plains roam well over a hundred million animals — sheep, goats, cattle and camels — one of the largest herds in all of Africa. Herding here is not only an industry; it is a way of life as old as the land itself, moving forever between grazing and water.
Fertile Land
Between the two Niles lie some of the most fertile plains on Earth. The vast Gezira Scheme — over two million acres watered by the river — is among the largest irrigation projects in the world. Here grow sorghum and the world's finest white sesame, peanuts, hibiscus and dates: Sudan was long called a breadbasket of the region, and could feed far more than itself.
The Nile & Water
The longest river on Earth gives Sudan its life. The Blue and White Niles meet at Khartoum and flow north as one, watering farms, turning sluices and carrying boats — a ribbon of green drawn across the desert. Where the Nile reaches, Sudan blooms.
Minerals & Energy
Beyond gold, Sudan's earth holds iron, chromium, manganese, gypsum and oil, while its long Red Sea coast and endless sunshine promise wind and solar power. Much of this wealth still sleeps underground — a vast inheritance waiting for a day of peace to lift it into the light.

The Breadbasket Between Two Niles
Between the Blue and White Niles spreads the Gezira — over two million acres of irrigated farmland, one of the largest schemes of its kind on Earth. From this dark soil come sorghum, peanuts, hibiscus and the finest white sesame in the world. With water, sun and space to spare, Sudan has long been called a breadbasket — a land that could one day feed nations.
“Sudan owns everything it needs to be rich — and the patience to wait for the day it will be.”
